| 08:39 am - Tweet Me Harder LANDMARK EPISODE 30
http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/wondermark/~3/ilvPAzWkzB4/ http://wondermark.com/?p=4928
I hope you’ve been listening to my weekly comedy podcast, Tweet Me Harder! If you haven’t, there’s absolutely no better time to start — the latest episode that’s been posted, Episode 30, may be our best yet. I’m super-pleased with how the show’s been progressing and developing over the last few months, and if you like the voice and temperament behind Wondermark, I’m confident recommending TMH to you as well.
In fact HERE IS THE EPISODE IN QUESTION for your listening pleasure:
(direct MP3 link)
We’re engaged in a concerted campaign right now to get noticed by the folks at iTunes who decide on the “staff picks,” which are podcasts that are given special precedence in the iTunes directory. If you’re an iTunes user, and you enjoy the show, there are two things you can do to help:
- You can subscribe to the podcast using this direct iTunes link, which is what determines our popularity ranking;
- You can rate and/or comment on the show in iTunes!
And, of course, there is one thing that you can always do, iTunes user or not, TMH fan or not… you can give yourself a big ol’ hug. Why not? (Unless you are spiky)

 | 02:15 am "Unobtainium"? Really? Why not just call it "Macguffinium"?
(And yes, it appears I'm far from the first person to make the joke, but I can't be blamed if people preemptively steal my material...)

 | 01:32 am - WOWZERS Mira Furlan was nice looking on B5 as Delenn but... WOW

Just finished Season 3. Just came across this
During the run of the show, the show's creator, J. Michael Straczynski, was contacted by NASA officials who asked if they could borrow the design of the show's fighters - the StarFuries - for use on the International Space Station. NASA wanted to use the ships as a combination tug and forklift, adding, "Your design is the most practical we've seen." Straczynski replied that it was fine with him, but that NASA had to call them StarFuries. NASA agreed. Wat are the chances they're still on the drafting table somewhere around the Beltway?

| 10:21 pm - "500 plows in the whole of the UK" So, I just heard on PRI's "The World" radio news show that the United Kingdom has 500 snowplows for the entire country.
They gave no context for this number. The story certainly gives the impression that this is very few, but how many is a reasonable number? I don't know how many snowplows Massachusetts has, for example.
Leaving aside whether this is true, whether this number only counts plows under the control of the Ministry of Transport, or what... I still don't know how that number compares with places which get more snow.
I'm not blaming the show, as this was more or less an atmosphere piece about how England has come to a sliding, slippery halt because of the weather; but I am really wondering what a baseline number of plows is for a place that gets snow regularly.

 | 08:25 pm - Night Music: Pyramids With Nadja
From one of the great albums of last year that I mentioned at the time of release but probably didn’t get around to listing when I was trying to sum up the year.
G’night.

OUT YONDER: Sick And Unseen In America is an excellent essay by Neil Shea, densely illuminated with photography by Andrew Cutraro, released in magazine form via POD operation MagCloud.
I’d read an article about this particular phenomenon last year, but Shea and Cutraro really bring it home in OUT YONDER: the plight of uninsured Americans trying to survive via the use of free healthcare clinics in rural Appalachia. It’s a sad and frightening read.

There is a secret town in Kamchatka. One can get here only by sea or a helicopter…
Yet another amazing photo-essay at English Russia, this time depicting the abandoned "submariners’ town" of Bechyovinka:

Pure post-civilisation artporn.
